Minutes of the FA meeting held on 27 April 2001 at 16H00 Attended by: Mr. Adinarayanmurthy Mr. Shankar Professor Prabhu Nott Professor V. Kumaran Dr. Ram Seshadri 1. Issue of delay in the occupation of houses: This point was raised in response to the director requesting the FA to put into place a scheme whereby it is ensured that when a house is made ready for occupancy and is allotted, it is occupied within a specific period of time. The FA suggests the following: When a house is vacated, the Estate Office should collect the key (as is presently the case) and immediately inform Unit III who in turn will inform potential occupants whose names come up as being eligible. Within a month of receiving the key, the Estate Office should ensure that the house is made ready (painting, fixtures ...) for the next occupant. Within one month of the house being made ready, the next occupant is expected to occupy the house. Failing this, the next person on the list will be offered the house. An exception will be made in the case of the contractual obligations of people who might have to vacate a rented house/apartment outside campus. In such case, the person will be given a period of two months after the house is made ready for occupation within which the house must be occupied. Including the time that the house is first released to the hands of the estate office, this will give people as much as three months. All violations of should be made known to the housing committee. 2. Issue of campus housing being occupied by people who have taken housing loans from the institute, or support on housing loan interest. The rules are very clear on this. Institute housing should not be used by people who have taken loans from the Institute or sought institutional assistance in their interest payments. A list if people who have taken such assistance should be made available to Unit III and through them, to the housing committee. 3. The FA hopes to take up the issue of campus amenities and the service they provide. Perhaps complaints about campus amenities could be dropped into the FA mailbox or em-ailed to the FA. 4. The worsening situation of bandwidth on campus needs to be brought up in the next meeting with the director as do issues of Professor of Eminence. 5. The FA will look into the charges of cable modems and lines being laid to campus houses. 6. Concern was once again raised that the Institute will go in for a quick, unsustainable fix as far as medical insurance for 2001-2002 goes. It was pointed out that the rates being paid by faculty are in excess of what is available to them from outside contractors. It was proposed that faculty be allowed to opt out of the insurance scheme contracted by the Institute, and purchase insurance on their own for in-patient treatment. The FA will talk to the medical regarding this proposal soon.
