Minutes of the Executive Committee Meeting of the Faculty Association Held on 27/10/2000 Members present: 1. Prof. S. Manohar 2. Prof. B. Ananthanarayan 3. Ms. P. G. Vathsala 4. Mr. M. Adinarayana Murthy 5. Mr. A. Suyambu 6. Dr. V. Kumaran 1. With regard to the CHSS, the General Secretary informed the members that the institute was taking an insurance coverage for all members of the faculty, with a minimum assured of Rs.\ 50,000/- per year per family. The premium would be paid by the institute, and all hospitalisation charges would be borne by the insurance company. Outpatient treatment would continue as before in accordance with the CSMA rules. The FA EC had previously expressed concern about this, because the new Mediclaim scheme does not include any cost cutting measures, and permits treatment at any hospital. Consequently, the inpatient treatment bill is likely to rise to the levels of last year. However, the premium to be paid by Mediclaim to the institute is a constant, and Mediclaim is unlikely to reimburse bills which are much higher than the premium being paid by the institute. This could lead to difficulties in the institute reclaiming the medical charges from Mediclaim. The EC decided that this scheme should be opposed, because it is likely to lead to another crisis at the end of next year, with the institute once again reducing benefits. It was decided to request the institute to adopt the scheme which was proposed by the Faculty Association in this regard. 2. The Executive Committee elections for the coming year was discussed. It was decided to hold the Annual General Body meeting in the last Wednesday of February or the first Wednesday in March, and the elections a day before that. It was decided to request Prof. Shivaprakash, ISU, and Prof. Abinandanan, Metallurgy, to be returning officers. The representation of the different categories in the EC would be decided in accordance with the formula agreed upon at the previous General Body meeting.
