Suyambu Mr. M. Adinarayana Murthy Dr. P. Balachandra Dr. V. Prasad Ms. P. G. Vathsala Dr. C. Rajanna The meeting was chaired by the Returning Officers, Dr. Krishna Kumar and Dr. Vasantacharya. The Returning Officers read out the names of the executive committee members who could vote in the elections for the new office bearers. They then opened the floor for nominations. 1. Dr. Swami Manohar was nominated for President by Dr. Ananthanarayanan, and seconded by Prof. Surolia. He accepted the nomination. Since there were no other nominations, Prof. Manohar was declared electedi to the post of President. 2. Prof. D. Sen was nominated for Vice President by Prof. Surolia, and seconded by Dr. Ananthanarayanan. He accepted the nomination. Since there were no other nominations, Prof. D. Sen was declared elected to the post of Vice President. 3. Dr. Kumaran was nominated for General Secretary by Prof. Manohar, and seconded by Prof. Surolia. He accepted the nomination. Mr. Adinarayana Murthy was nominated for General Secretary by Dr. Prasad, and seconded by Mr. Saqqauf. He declined the nomination. Since there were no other nominations, Dr. Kumaran was declared elected to the post of General Secretary. 4. Ms. Vathsala was nominated for the post of Joint Secretary by Dr. Prasad, and seconded by Dr. Balachandra. She accepted the nomination. Since there were no other nominations, Ms. Vathsala was declared elected to the post of Joint Secretary. 5. Mr. Adinarayana Murthy was nominated for the post of Treasurer by Dr. Manohar, and seconded by Mr. Suyambu. Since there were no other nominations, Mr. Adinarayana Murthy was declared elected to the post of Treasurer. The returning officers declared the names of the elected office bearers. The new President Dr. Manohar thanked the Returning Officers for their efforts, and he thanked the past office bearers for their efforts on behalf of the Faculty Association. He thanked Mr. Shankar and Mr. Adinarayana Murthy for getting the keys for the FA office. He said that the Faculty Association would be used for facilitating communication between the faculty and the administration for realising faculty aspirations. The outgoing President, Prof. Surolia, thanked the past office bearers for their efforts, and communicated his best wishes to the future office bearers. The past treasurer, Mr. Shankar, said that it was difficult to keep track of the annual memberships, so every effort should be made to motivate all members to become life members. He also said the office bearers should tap sponsorship so that the resource of the faculty association are conserved. Future communication should be via the internet so that there is no money spend on photocopying and distribution. Suggestions that emerged from the floor included 1. The office bearers could locate one faculty member from each department who would take the responsibility of collecting membership fees from all department faculty. 2. The annual membership could be increased so that it becomes more attractive for all members to become life members. A resolution was passed making the annual membership Rs. 80/- from this year onwards. A decision was also taken to appoint nominees to the institute committees.
