Summary of the meeting of the EC on 9 Jan 2003

* PRN briefed the EC about the letter sent to the Director
by the FA to implement the reimbursement of phone charges upto
Rs 750 per month to all faculty whose basic salary equals or exceeds 
that of an Assistant Professor's basic salary.

* EC suggested that the office bearers meet the FC to pursue it
as well as the item concernign the inclusion of IISc payments in the 
monthly payslips of faculty.

* KVSH briefed about the IISc Heritage Fund. Based on Prabhu's
initiative, Prof. Govind Rao of UMBC kindly agreed to
take over from Prof. Kailath and manage the Heritage Fund.
Currently, the Heritage Fund has made a donation of $18,800 dollars
to CSA and ECE departments. The Fund has also received a cheque
of $50,000 (first part of the payment) from DuPont towards a Chair at IISc. 
The remaining part will be sent later.

* DS informed the Ec that he was collecting some information about the Insurance schemes
available for consideration by faculty.

* EC decided that the elections to the next EC should be held in February.
EC suggested that we request Dr. Shivaprakash and Dr. Abinandanan to conduct the 
Elections.

* KVSH explored the views of EC if  FA should conduct a half-day event
on IISc's vision and mission. JH felt that the Vision is fine
but need to address on issues of how to go forward on specific points
like transparency, efficiency of admin etc. After some discussion, it was felt
that more views are needed before we proceed on conducting the event.
